Trouble sleeping? You’re not alone.
Insomnia and the exhausting days that follow are the worst. We’ve all had restless nights where we toss and turn until the alarm goes off. Every few minutes you look at the clock only to see hours have actually gone by. Insomnia is a common disorder defined as trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep. According to the National Institute of Health, roughly 30% of Americans suffer from sleep disruption. Not only does this negatively effect your energy and mood, but 10% of Americans report daytime impairment effecting health, work performance, and quality of life. Thats nearly 33 million people in the United States alone! In 2015 it was reported that nearly 4 million adults had at least one prescription for zolpidem, more commonly known by the brand name Ambien.
Needless to say, we see a lot of patients with insomnia in our office. It presents either as a chief complaint or as a secondary symptom of another ailment. Dr. Levy and I have had our fair share of sleepless nights as well and often use medical cannabis as an effective sleep aid, like many patients, with wonderful results.
Strain Recommendations
There is some trial and error when it comes to finding the best cannabis strain that works for you. We discuss with patients that due to our genetic make-up, one strain that works great for me, may not work so well for you. Leafly is a highly reputable resource so seeing some familiar strains on the list was encouraging from a larger scale perspective.
We often recommend three of the strains listed, mainly due to effectiveness and availability in Florida dispensaries. Those strains are:
I cannot speak to the other strains, but I’ll be sure to update this post when I have more information about them!
Patients often report back positive results stating these strains are highly effective for falling asleep and staying asleep throughout the night. If you or a loved one are looking for a good night sleep, these three cannabis strains are a great place to start. If you have tried them, please join the conversation, we would love to know your experience using them!
Continued health to you all.
